Question by JUICE

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH KEEPING MY MAKE-UP LOOKING FRESH. I'VE USED ALMOST EVERY TYPE AND BRAND OF MAKE-UP AVAILABLE BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK. I'LL WALK OUT OF THE HOUSE FLAWLESSLY AND AN HOUR LATER MY EYELINER WILL BE SMUDGED, AND FOUNDATION LOOKS LIKE IT MELTED OFF. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Reply by CMG

Hi and thanks for your question.

Well first, I would look past the makeup and take a look at your skin. Your face is the canvas for the makeup. If your makeup looks like it has melted off, I would say your skin is oily. I would spend the money on finding a product to control that rather than the money on all the makeup and trying to make that work for you; As far as eyeliners are concerned...I feel your pain. It took me years to find the right one. I finally figured out that it was that my eyes always water, in which case making my eyeliner runny. I don’t use an eye pencil anymore; I use an eye shadow. I take a little bit of water put in on the tip of my eyeliner brush, and then put a little of whatever color I want to use, and use the brush to apply my eyeliner on the bottom right at the lash line. I can’t wear eyeliner on the inner close to the eye, because that will run. Try that see if that helps out with the liner problem. Also always use waterproof mascara on the bottom lashes. That will help prevent it from looking like it smudged and runny. I really hope this offers you some assistance. Thanks again.

Hi! To post a review, all you do is go to the Critic's Corner page. Make sure to log in on the top right. Sometimes for the security from spammers, you may have to log in on the Critic's corner page a second time. Once you're logged in, you can either do a search for the product you want to review by entering it into the search bar. Or, you can browse products by clicking on the different categories. If the product you want to review isn't in our database, you can click the 'upload' button on the top right and upload your product and review. Either way, the review form will show up under every product you look at (as long as you're logged in). Hope this helps. If you have any questions or still are having problems...feel free to contact us! Thank you,

Question by catjovic@comcast.net

I recently colored my hair a rich auburn the color looks good on me but now I don't know which colord of eyeshadow or lipstick to wear. I am fair skinned and have hazel eyes, I am also 50 years old your help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi and thanks for the question. I would go light. On the eyes light brown, nudes, even gold's. I would suggest not go too shimmery. Also for your eyeliner try a plum color, regardless of the color you are wearing on your eyes. The plum pigment will accent your eyes and make them "POP" so to say. Apply your makeup with brushes, if you already don't. This will give you a better edge on application lightness or darkness. As for your lips I would try using a light lip gloss in a clear or with a hint or warm tint to it. You don't want your gloss to be a high shine though. On the days you want a more dramatic effect without going overboard, use your favorite shade of lipstick. Stay away from bright pinks, or lipsticks with an orange undertone to it. Or create your own color of lipstick. A lot of times for me I have to do that. I have a rare undertone to my skin. In my t-zone area my undertone is yellow. On my cheeks and under my eyes, its grey.(This is because of my heritage. I am Irish with Apache American Indian.) My lips have a pale grey undertone to them as well, so for lipstick I have to mix my own colors. I mix a deep red with a brown. I know it sounds crazy, but it works, and I get complemented all the time. People always ask me what shade I use. I tell them its called "NO HOPE". : ) What ever you do don't be afraid to play with your makeup. If you have a color you like and have worn prior to the new hair color, try it. I hope I have been able to give you some direction. If this does not help call your local free lance makeup artist or stop by your local cosmetic counters. They will be able to offer their tips, especially after seeing your coloring. Happy Holidays!

Question by memaof2

i'm not sure this is where I should be asking this question, but I really would like professional advice. My lips are ALWAYS chapped! I've used everything! What is causing it and what do you recommend. I don't lick my lips!

Reply by CMG

Hi and Thanks for the Question.

Chapped lips occurs because of the loss of moisture in and around your lips. Winter time, chapped lips are an especially popular problem because the air is dryer so it depletes the moisture in your lips quicker. If you don't lick them then I would say you're not getting enough fluids. I'm not a doctor so that's not a diagnosis. In any case I have the perfect remedy for this. I use to have non-stop problems with my lips being chapped. Here's what you do: You take a dedicated soft bristled tooth brush. I use a toddler tooth brush because its super soft. Dab the head of the brush in some virgin olive oil and lightly in a circular motion, rub it over your lips. Not only will it exfoliate the dead skin, but it will moisturize as well. Olive oil is a natural oil. You skin absorbs it quickly and the oil is so dense that It will help lock the moisture in. I do this 3 timess a week in the summer and 4 timess a week in the winter. It works like a charm, and the best thing is most people have olive oil handy in their kitchen. While you are out in the cold I would recommend keeping a moisturizing gloss or chapstick on. Personally I keep Smiths Rosebud Salve in my purse and apply it faithfully all day long if I'm out. You can get this through www.discountbeauty.com and it will cost you $7 dollars with shipping and handling. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!

Do you answer questions about hair coloring, also? If so, I am a dark blonde and colored my hair a dark brown/auburn color. (I got tired of the blond jokes) It doesn't look good at all! How can I get back my natural color? Jackie

Hi and Thanks for the question.
I am assuming you died your hair out of a box ,otherwise I would think if you hated it that much you would have already consulted your stylist. I suggest you to get some Dove shampoo (the original formula) and wash your hair with that for a few days. Dove is a great shampoo for fading color, and it’s less harmful on your hair than a color stripper. Wash it twice a day. The more you wash it the quicker the color will fade. Lucky for you colors like Auburn or any color with red tones fade extremely quick. This is because colors like Brown, Black, and bleach, their chemical components are closer together so when they attach to the hair quickly and closer together. As for red, its components are fewer, and when they attach to the hair they attach further apart. This is why red fades so quickly, not as many color particles as brown and black. Now your other option if you can’t wait for it to fade is a professional color stripper. But I warn you if you go out and get these products, the results may vary. I have had strippers work great and things been fine. Then there are other times that it only took some of the color and left me looking patchy like a calico cat…. I cried….The only advice I can give you on those products is USE WITH CAUTION! Maybe consult a professional to see what your options are. Most salons offer a free consultation. I must tell you any hair experience I have is only from doing my own and playing with family, and friends heads. I am not a cosmetologist. I only have a Barbers License, which is totally not the same. I wish you luck. Happy Holidays.
