i have dark circles under my eyes. it's the type that is inherited. i have tried many types of concealers, but none have covered them up completely...maybe lighten them some, but they are still visible. is there something i can use to completely cover them, so that they can't be seen or a way to get rid of them completely. the circles seem to get larger as the years go by. it's embarrassing and i want them gone.

Hi and thanks for your question.
If you circles are inherited there is nothing you can do to get rid of them completely. You can only learn to cover them. There are good concealers out there, but the concealer is only as good as the person applying it. Concealing correctly takes time and patience. I would suggest one of 2 products for you; Benefits -Your Buffing - concealer which retails for around $20.00. Paula Dorf – Total Camouflage, which retails for around $22.00. These are great products. I personally use the Total Camouflage and it works wonders. Again, you have to practice putting it on. Even on days you don't wear makeup and are sitting around the house, use your concealer. It wont take long and before you know it you will be a pro. Best of luck!

Question by rbrasher
I'm thirty-six (I hate the way that sounds)and starting to get fine lines under my eyes. Is there anything under $100.00 that works even if it's just temporary? I don't want to resort to injections or sergury.

Hi and thanks for your question.
I would suggest Murad Renewing Eye cream. It will cost about $78 w/ shipping and works great. Other great eye products are Kiehl’s eye treatment creams. They will run you anywhere from about $30 to $35. I would recommend these two brands. Maybe try the Kiehl’s out first and if that doesn’t work for you, move to the more expensive. There are a lot of eye creams out there to fight aging that are under your budget. Good Luck!

I'm 61 yrs. old,and I would like to ask in your opinion, which would be better for me to use--cream to powder or liquid makeup, my skin is normal to dry,and my skin is in pretty good condition, but does need extra help in softening lines and wrinkle creases. At the present time,I'm using clinique soft finish in a liquid base,I'm pretty well satisfied with it,but I can also put on maybeline mouse makeup, and it looks about the same, any ideas from a professional view.

Hi and thanks for the question.
If you have no problems with your current foundation I would say to keep using it; maybe get one that has conditioning properties to help moisturize your skin, this also help reduce some lines. If its fine lines and wrinkles you want to cover, maybe you should try a foundation primer. Foundation Primer is used for this reason, to hide fine line and wrinkles. There is also age defying foundations out there, which over time will reduce this issue. Covergirl has one; Revlon has one as far as your more inexpensive go. Of course all your high end brands carry them as well. Maybe even invest in some age defying products as well. Maybe try some Alpha Hydroxy serum. I would say if you are getting the desired finish from the liquid I would stick with it, no matter what brand you use. Thanks again.

Question by madkour
I am fair skined dark brown hair and green eyes could you please tell me what colours to use on my eyes checks and lips I am 43
Regards
Linda

Hi Linda and thanks for the question,
Well the basic principle for makeup with dark hair is light on the eyes, medium on the cheek and bold on the lips. That said I will tell you what color not to use. Don't use light greens, blues, purples. If you want to accent the crease of the eye with a dark green or green with a gold base that will be ok, as long as its just an accent, and only in the crease. Also stay away from dark browns. Sometimes and people don't realize brown will totally wash green out, so then the focus changes on the face. As for your cheeks, I would use blushes with a LIGHT orange undertone rather than pink. When you mix pink blushes with fair skin and dark hair some women tend to look like baby dolls, rather than women. But remember keep it light. Start at the apple and in a sweeping motion pull up and back, that way it sits under the eyes on the cheeks and this will help bring those beautiful green eyes out more. When you apply your blush this way you want to apply more pressure to the brush at the apple and less pressure on the brush as you pull back. This will blend it beautifully. Now the lips: The darker your eyeshadow, the lighter your lips should be. Very few people can pull off a smokey eye look with bright red lips. For a day to day lip wear I would go with a color with neutral undertones. For example Bare Escentialss has a color called "Bella". Check it out. I would recommend a color similar to that for you. It's a soft pink rose shimmer. Its not too dark or too pink but still applies color. If you are wearing a lipstick with a shimmer, don't apply a gloss with a shimmer as well, that will pull too much focus on your lips and not on the rest of your face. Use a matte gloss with lipstick that already has shimmer. I hope this gives you some ideas. Thanks!

Question by laura mulvaney
Hi,about 30 years ago I used an aunt's fondation,it was very thick and she said it was what the pros used,it covered everything wonderfully. She said that it was evry spendy but I don't remember what it was.She is long gone so I can't ask her, would you know of something in that order???What do the stars use, and where do we get it???
Reply by CMG
Ok firstly let me address the issue of what pro’s use. Pros use a variety of different foundations. If a pro is going on a job on set, under a lot of lights, which in this case the subject would be getting hot, hence sweating, hence runny makeup they use something that is thicker of course. Most of the time you cant purchase this foundation, because as makeup artist we learn to blend and mix a number of products to get the desired product we are looking for. You don’t want anything that thick on your face everyday all day. Its not good for your skin. Im sure the brand that your aunt used is no longer available unless it was Mary Kay or Avon. You might want to start looking their. If you are sure you want something thick for all over coverage, try MAC or Elizabeth Arden. As far as the stars, they use whatever they want. They will use anything from Covergirl to brands like Artistry (which you can only purchase through their IBO’s). There is no “one and only” makeup. Thanks again
